This is a rare New York appearance with dancer/choreographer C. Neil Parsons. Neil lives in Indiana, so this is an opportunity that does not come up every day! We will be performing music by Lowell Liebermann, GP Telemann, and David Loeb, all choreographed by Neil. The program is rounded out by a solo in which I combine music by American composer Edie Hill with haiku by Japanese poet Basho.

The Flute on its Feet performance/workshop
Zara Lawler and choreographer C. Neil Parsons lead a performance/workshop, on adding dance and poetry to playing in a friendly atmosphere. Works to be performed include two choreographed by Parsons: Eight Pieces, with music by Lowell Liebermann, and Fantasies with music by Telemann. Lawler performs solo on This Floating World, an evocative piece combining Japanese haiku with music by American Edie Hill and choreography by Lawler.

The Flute on its Feet is a virtuoso tour de force with classics of the flute repertoire, new works by American composers, and pieces choreographed for New York flutist/dancer Zara Lawler by innovative Bloomington choreographer C. Neil Parsons. Lawler dances and weaves poetry into the music, partnered by Parsons.
Includes This Floating World, inspired by the works of Basho, one of the best-known haiku poets of Edo Period Japan.
04/17/12 - 04/19/12 Zara Lawler in Bloomington, IN Indiana University Arts Week
Time: 7:00pm.
Reverse BUSking – A set of five mini-performance pieces created to be performed on the IU Campus Buses. Instead of passing around a hat for donations, the bus audience will be given free tickets to the April 19 performance of The Flute on its Feet.
Vignettes of music, haiku, theater and dance is timed to the bus route, so that it can be seen in its entirety in the space of one stop. All five will be performed in succession, giving longer distance riders an extended performance experience. Poetry will be drawn from the haiku of Japanese master poet Basho.

Part of Indiana University’s (IU) Arts Week Everywhere (AWE). Held on bus routes A & E.

Time: 5:00pm. Admission: free. Age restrictions: All Ages. Walking tour with arts events in the south western corner of campus. Will include the flute students leading the audience from station to station in processionals from Lawler’s E Pluribus Flutum (music arranged by Lawler, w/choreography by Lawler). Final event is a short recital in Margo Jones Performance Hall, by Lawler & Parsons. Program is Lowell Liebermann’s 8 Pieces for flute, alto flute and piccolo, choreographed by Parsons; Fantasies (music by Telemann, choreographed by Parsons) and mini-performance piece co-created by Lawler, Parsons and selected students (to be based on a pre-selected haiku).
